Apply to CMS

Thank you for your interest in the Combined Major in Science program. On this page, you'll find details on applying to CMS.

Applying to CMS

You can apply to CMS when you enter the 2nd year of your program in May of the same year. To do this you will make your choices for specialization within your BSc program to the Dean of Science office. After you select your preferred specialization, you will be notified between June-July on your acceptance.

Can I switch CMS packages in year 3 or 4 of my BSc program?

Yes, you may switch packages at any time during your BSc program but it is strongly recommended that you consult with the CMS Director when you are thinking of doing that.  Also, switching packages in year 4 may cause delays in your graduation and may cause issues with total number of credits allowed per year as a BSc student at UBC-V.  So consult with the CMS Director and science advising when considering such a change.

Switching to CMS from another major

You can also switch to CMS at any time in your degree. To do so, please follow the steps below.

  1. Carefully read all the information about the CMS program available on the website
  2. Choose what three packages you want to pursue
  3. From the "Packages and worksheets" page download the worksheet corresponding to your chosen combination of packages
  4. Fill out the worksheet indicating all the courses you have already completed and ones in which you are currently registered
  5. Send the filled out worksheet, with a request to be switched into CMS, to vishakha@mail.ubc.ca

Important: If you would like to switch into or enter a Combined Major in two disciplines (e.g. microbiology and computer science), you must contact the relevant departments. Such majors are distinct form the Combined Major in Science (CMS).
